The rack was temporarily installed in a corner shop in London and documented through photography. In this shift, the work moves from a private visual narrative to a quiet insertion into public space. The images, which once recorded moments of intimate daily life, are now situated among everyday consumer goods. The rack appears to blend naturally into the shop environment, yet it also feels slightly out of place. No longer presented solely as a display of personal memory, the work enters a space that is both specific and familiar. It becomes part of the everyday, introducing a subtle sense of interruption and presence. The resulting photograph is both a record of the installation and an observation of its placement within a real environment. It reflects a certain condition of the everyday within the city, a visual presence that exists and may be easily overlooked. The subject might be each other, or scenes and objects from my perspective. This act was both a witness to the passing of time and a visual narration of intimacy. Although the photographs were not taken in strict hourly succession, together they form a nonlinear slice of time, revealing the fragmented nature of everyday life. Each image was printed in postcard size and displayed on a rotating postcard rack. Through this transformation, the photographs become souvenirs, temporal fragments, or familiar visual displays found in public space. This project primarily explores the impacts of the internship system and Confucianism on the socialisation and identity of people in Chinese society. In China, the internship system is fundamentally rooted in the hierarchical structures of Confucian philosophy and is used as a widespread socialisation mechanism. Such a system often places ‘interns’ in a suppressed role, where in the behaviour and identity of young people are suppressed. This creates an unequal social relationship between the participants, where potential growth and development may be inhibited. By creating a satirical handbook, titled "Intern Handbook”, I aim to delve deeper into the essence of the internship system and the socialisation that happens during its process, does conforming to these norms truly allow us to integrate into society as genuine social beings?
